The tradition

William Lilly worked in London in the middle of the seventeenth century. His Christian Astrology, published in 1647, remains the most thorough practical manual of judicial astrology in the English language — a book less concerned with speculation than with procedure. How do you read a chart? What are the rules? When does testimony hold, and when is it void?

The Observatory works from the same foundation. The seven classical planets — Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn — are the instruments of judgment. Essential dignities (domicile, exaltation, triplicity, term, face) establish whether a significator has strength or weakness. Sect — whether a chart belongs to the day or to the night — determines which planets are in their proper element. The lord of the year in annual profection supplies the theme of the turning year. Planets beyond Saturn enter no primary judgment here.

This is not a method that profiles personality or assigns archetypes. The chart is a figure cast for a moment. The astrologer's task is to read what it says: is the matter radical? Is the significator in a position to act? What do the testimonies, taken together, indicate? The method is precise because the tradition made it so.

The method

You bring a question. The chart is cast for the moment it is received. An astrologer trained in the classical method examines the figure: the state of the significators, the aspects between them, the conditions of the houses in question. A manuscript is written — not generated from a template, not produced by software, not assembled from prefabricated paragraphs. It is drawn, section by section, from what the chart shows.

The manuscript is delivered to your private library. Turnaround varies by tier: questions are typically completed within three days; nativities and longer works within seven. The practice does not rush. A reading that is hurried is a reading that is wrong.

• Nativities: the birth chart examined in full — planets, houses, significators of the major departments of life.
• The year ahead: annual profection combined with the solar return, supplying the lord and theme of the coming year.
• Longer works: the counsel, the pair, the deepening — available once a nativity is on file.

Anonymity

No account is required to receive a reading. You place an order, provide the data the chart requires, and receive a magic link that opens your private library. The library belongs to the link, not to an account with a name attached. You may give a name — many do — but it is not required, and it changes nothing about how the reading is produced.

Chart data is held privately. It is not shared, sold, or displayed. The Observatory was designed this way from the beginning: the questions people bring to astrology are often the questions they would not ask anyone else. The practice takes that seriously.
