How Caluminate produces a reading

Caluminate's daily interpretation is produced by our own system: classical technique, applied to your chart and your calendar. The astrology is authored by people. The synthesis is done by machine, at a scale no astrologer could match, against a diary no astrologer has ever had.

When Lilly tells you why an hour suits a meeting, or why a day asks for patience, that sentence was not picked from a list. This page sets out where it came from, in the order the work is done.

Three things, kept apart

  1. The sky is computed

Planetary positions, houses, aspects, dignities, the Moon's condition and the planetary hours are calculated from your birth details and from the dates in your calendar. This part is arithmetic. It is done by code, the same way every time, and nothing in a reading may contradict it.

  2. The method is classical, and written down

Lilly works in the tradition of William Lilly's Christian Astrology of 1647. The procedures, their exceptions and the places where the sources disagree have been set out by people as an explicit method, so that a judgment can be traced back to the rule it rests on.

  3. The reading is written for you

A language model, given only the computed facts and the written method, weighs what the chart says for and against, relates it to what is actually in your diary, and writes the reading. It is asked to notice what has changed since yesterday and to say so plainly when nothing has.

Nothing reaches you unchecked

A finished reading is a draft until it has been checked twice: once against the computed facts, and once against the method it claims to follow. A draft that fails is written again. If it still does not pass after three attempts, the day is held and Lilly tells you so, rather than showing you something that could not be stood behind.

There is no switch that lets an unchecked reading through.

What your calendar is for

Your calendar is what makes the reading yours. Lilly reads the times and titles of your appointments so that she can speak about the meeting on Thursday and not about Thursdays in general. She does not change, move or delete anything on your own calendar. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is read, stored and shared.

What a reading is, and is not

Astrology is a tradition of judgment, not a science, and a reading is an interpretation, not a forecast of what must happen. Lilly will tell you when the testimony is mixed or thin. A reading is never medical, legal or financial advice, and the decision is always yours.
